Preseason #CAAHoops Uni Watch

By Brant Wilkerson-New

With a new season comes new looks, and as the league’s preeminent (only?) observer of uniform trends, it is our solemn duty to keep you updated on the latest threads, and unfortunately, jersey patches.

Jersey patches won’t be going anywhere during the NIL/revenue sharing era, so our best hope can be that they aren’t horribly distracting.

Surely, teams will be introducing new uniforms as the season gets rolling, but here’s what we’ve seen so far.

UNCW

Big news all around for the Seahawks thanks to the addition of three new uniforms and jersey patches with Novant Health and Emerge Ortho.

UNCW debuted the teal set last season, introducing the new wordmark that was unveiled in August of 2025. Now, all of the uniforms will carry the new branding, including an updated script on the white uniforms.

Previously, the Seahawks used different script wordmarks on both the white and black uniforms. While we’ll miss the original script that was introduced on the first black uniforms, having a uniform script is the better look.

Charleston

The arrival of Coach John Groce means a wholesale uniform update for the Cougars, who unveiled four different looks in the preseason.

For comparison, here’s what the Cougs rocked during the 2025-26 season.

The new gold uniform is, by far, the best of the bunch. After that, the Perch would deem the others a downgrade from last season. Why? It comes down to the classic piping vs. the one-color arm/necklines.

Hopefully, Charleston hangs onto the vintage white uniform with block lettering across the chest. Those are exceptionally good unis.

Monmouth

The Hawks have a squad that looks capable of competing near the top of the CAA this season, and they’ve got at least one new uniform befitting of a contender.

Monmouth looked good in their two exhibition matchups thanks to these sweet new home whites with their updated script, featuring a jersey patch from BSI Corporate Benefits.

It appears Monmouth will be unveiling a couple more new uniforms, based on this photo from the jersey patch announcement, but they haven’t fully unveiled the navy or black looks yet.

Elon

The Phoenix broke out a couple of new uniforms for their preseason media day. The general aesthetic remains the same, with most of the changes related to switching up their Under Armour template. Based on the the heavy use of black uniforms last season, it’s a good bet that Elon will have an updated version of those, too.

Hopefully, they’ll get the new Phoenix mascot logo — introduced in August — involved in an alternate uniform.

Here’s what Elon wore in the 2025-26 season for comparison.

Stony Brook

How does one manage to upgrade one of the best uniforms in the league? The Seawolves found a way, adding two-color piping and simplifying their number font.

Their new home look was unveiled for media day, with a Bulovas Restorations jersey patch.

For comparison, here’s Stony Brook’s home uniform for 2025-26.

NC A&T

Continuing with the CAA’s Nike schools, you can always count on the Aggies to introduce a few new uniforms every season.

So far, they’ve shown us one of their new looks from Midnight Madness.

Here are a few of A&T’s looks from last season. If I were CAA commissioner, I would pass a rule forever preserving the white uniforms with Aggies script — they’re absolutely beautiful.

William & Mary

No big changes yet for the Tribe; mainly just a switch to a new template for the home uniforms.

Here’s what William & Mary wore last season, featuring much larger piping on the shorts. Overall, moving the logo to the bottom of the shorts is a win.

Two basketball players celebrate during a game, wearing white jerseys with 'William & Mary' written on them. One player is extending his hand for a gesture while the other smiles.

Drexel

Our expectations are extremely low for jersey patch sponsors, but Drexel might have landed the best partnership in college basketball thanks to Steamfitters Local 420, a Philadelphia-area labor union for welders, steamfitters, and HVAC technicians.

That’s a perfect sponsorship for a program built on toughness and defense.

Hampton

Nothing new on the game uniform front for the Pirates yet, but Hampton did wear a fairly unique practice uniform for an exhibition game.

A basketball player in a blue jersey dribbles the ball on the court with spectators in the background. The scoreboard shows a final score of 79 for the Pirates and 61 for the opposing team.

With one of the nation’s sharpest dressers — and a fashion designer himself — roaming the sidelines, it seems likely Coach Ivan Thomas and the Pirates will have something new during the season.

Everyone Else…

For media days and exhibition games, Campbell, Towson, Hofstra, and Northeastern have only shown looks that were introduced in the past year or two.

We’ll be ready with the latest #UniWatch updates when things get tipped off!
